Jean-Baptiste made his Declaration of Intent at St. Lawrence Parish on Sunday the 2^nd February in front of the Christian Assembly. Jaya Mrutyun and Bernhard Udelhoven, who presided Mass, signed also the Declaration.

Also present: Marc Nsanzurwimo, Romaric Bationo, Serge St-Arneault and Jean-Pierre Sauge.

At the request of Jean-Baptiste, a chorale made of youth sang a song in French.

The stagiaire Philippe Dakono was also witnessing the event.

New African start-up carrier Malawian Airlines has started operation from 15^th Jan 2014 with a planned operational network as follow.

The state-of-the art new generation aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 and a Bombardier Q400 will be handed over to Malawians Airlines from the Airliner’s strategic partner, Ethiopian Airlines at a ceremony to be held Malawi Airlines first planes jet in Wednesday 29/01/2014 at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe.

First flight internal Lilongwe to Blantyre on Thursday 30/01/2014, international Friday 31/01/2014.
New African airline takes off in Malawi

The government of Malawi and African powerhouse Ethiopian Airlines have finalised the creation of a new national airline in the Southern African country, called Malawian Airlines.

Officials in Addis Ababa confirmed the government of Malawi will hold a 51 per cent stake in new carrier, with Ethiopian Airlines holding the remaining shares.

Negotiations had been ongoing for months as replaced the collapsed Air Malawi with a new professionally managed national airline supported by a strong partner.

After ASKY in West Africa, Malawian Airlines will be the second such joint venture from Ethiopian Airlines, which is considered one of the strongest players on the continent.

The move is part of Ethiopian Airlines plan to assert its continental leadership through both direct expansion and through strategic partnerships.

It is hoped this will help feed extra traffic into its long-haul network, while simultaneously drawing in traffic from rivals in the region.

Return to the Lord of Father Adriaan van Pinxten

Father Adriaan died on January 27, 2014 in St. Elisabeth hospital, Tilburg Netherlands at the age of 79, of which 54 of missionary life in Malawi and in Netherlands. The funeral will be this coming Saturday afternoon at St Charles; afterwards we will lay him to rest in our cemetery at Heythuysen. He will be remembered as a man, close to the simple people entrusted to him.

May he rest in peace.

Zambian Sector Assembly, Jan 22-23, 2014 and farewell to Father Henk van der Steen

About sixty confreres gathered for their annual Zambian Sector Assembly, this time again at Kasisi. Our confrere Venerato Babaine accepted to act as moderator of the assembly.

Dr. Lloyd, working as a medical doctor at the new Cardinal Adam Memorial Catholic Hospital in Bauleni, Lusaka provided two talks; one on Diabetes becoming an emerging health emergency and the second one on prostate cancer. Diabetes is predicted to exceed the ravages
of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the near future while prostate cancer is the most common cancer in the world among men.

The second talk on pastoral issues was offered by Dr. Fr. Leonard Namuhumba who is a lecturer at St. Dominic’s Major Seminary.

As usual, each community gave a report of their activities and brought their views and concerns on various questions related to our commitments and future engagements. Thanks to the Provincial Christopher Chileshe, using a PowerPoint presentation, the confreres got a better understanding of the decisions taken at the Plenary Council which took place in Ouagadougou, West Africa.

The end of the meeting ended with a farewell party in honour of Father Henk van der Steen who decided to retire in his native land in Holland.

The St. Lawrence community is inviting all of us to the Declaration of Intent of our stagiaire Jean-Baptiste Todjro. The Eucharistic celebration will start at 9:00 hours on Sunday the 2nd February. This is an important step for Jean-Baptiste as he is expressing publicly his intention to pursue his formation to become a Missionary of Africa.
