Reinhold and I started theology together in Ottawa; he read the Gospel at my first Holy Mass and he is a friend of my family. I wish him good health and happiness in his service at Woodlands. You are all in my thoughts and in my prayers.

P.S.: Greetings and good wishes from Jules Roy, Jean-Marie Béliveau, Ray-Marie Fortin.” Jacques Bédard, M.Afr

Farewell of Reinhold Bloching at New Kaloko parish.

Lighting 20 candles for 20 years of service in New Kaloko_JPEG_2On 8th May 2016 the parishioners of New Kaloko bid farewell to their shepherd. Our confrere Reinhold Bloching who for the last twenty years prayed with them and worked for them, went for his well-deserved home leave and left the parish for good. He is remembered not only for creating the parish and building the church, but also for constructing about 50 houses in the compound for the poorest of the poor. He also created a school called Bupe Mulenga Youth Training Centre in which young boys and girls from poor families can learn some skills needed in life, namely carpentry, brick laying, metal work, tailoring etc. For all of these and for many more things not mentioned here, the parishioners said a big THANK YOU. On the above mentioned day we gathered for the Eucharist to pray for Reinhold. Among the concelebrants there was also our Sector Delegate Fr. Venerato Babaine, who delivered the sermon, and Fr. Romaric. It was a very moving ceremony in which the parish movements expressed their gratitude and presented to Reinhold some gifts. But that was not the end of the farewell. The second part took place after the Mass, outside the church in a well prepared place. There were dances and groups offering gifts, among them delegates from other Churches, and of course a meal prepared by the Parish Council. The whole event was finished in late afternoon. We came home happy to see how our Zambian brothers and sisters are grateful for the good work done by Reinhold. Reinhold, I would like to let you know that you are being remembered, because every time I come to New Kaloko I am greeted with a question: “how is Father Bloching”. Well done, Reinhold and God bless you. Franciszek Szczurek, M.Afr

New Bishop for Mpika Diocese, Mgr. Justin Mulenga

Bishop Justin Mulenga consecrated Bishop and takes Episcopal possession of Mpika Diocese.bBy Stanley Lubungo, M.Afr

On the 12th of March 2016, the town of Mpika became for a day the centre of ecclesial life in Zambia as scores of Catholics converged to the City to witness the ordination of Fr Justin Mulenga as new Bishop of Mpika Diocese. Bishops, priests, religious and the laity came from different parts of the country and from neighbouring Tanzania to be part of the event. The President of Zambia, various government officials and opposition party leaders also graced the occasion with their presence! We do not have communities in Mpika Diocese anymore but the Missionaries of Africa were represented by ten Confreres from Lusaka, Ndola, Serenje and Kasama.

The liturgical assembly that gathered on green Mpika Cathedral grounds on that cool Saturday morning celebrated its faith, dancing with joy to the sound of traditional drums and music from the renowned Babuomba choir. Archbishop Ignatius Chama of Kasama, who administered the Diocese for the last four years, presided over the beautiful ceremony as Principal consecrator. He was assisted by Bishops Georges Lungu and Bernard Chisanga of Chipata and Mansa Dioceses respectively.

In his speech, the new Bishop, Justin Mulenga who is originally from Kasama Archdiocese thanked the many people who had in one way or another contributed to the spiritual journey that brought him to where he is today. On his long list of names also figured those of three confreres whose lives particularly inspired him: Reinhold Bloching, Guy Lefebvre (1927-2009) and Joseph Stumpf (1931-2006). We may not have communities in Mpika Diocese but through them and many other confreres the legacy of the Missionaries of Africa lives on. With the Church of Mpika Diocese we give thanks to God for the gift of a shepherd.

Ndola-July-2014-01b2

Reinhold Bloching is celebrating his Golden Jubilee of priesthood this year. The community of Ndola organized a special celebration to commemorate it on Tuesday the 8th July in Ndola. A simple but joyful gathering brought about thirty people, mostly Religious Sisters, diocesan priests and Missionaries of Africa. Reinhold has set up a remarkable church at New Kaloko in the outskirt of Ndola. The inside church is decorated with African symbols in line with the local culture. Congratulation for this outstanding achievement.

At this same occasion, the Missionaries of Africa thanked Jules Roy, who celebrated this Jubilee last year, as he is getting ready to leave his beloved Zambia after 51 years. Like an old elephant, Jules said, leaving the heard to move its way alone, so is his feeling today. We wish him a good retirement back home in Canada. The departure of Jules from Lusaka is on the 31st July 2014.

Great day at New Kaloko Parish, Ndola – Zambia

St. John the Baptist -bookWith great thankfulness to our confrere Reinhold Bloching for his pastoral and social work at New Kaloko Parish, Rt. Rev. Alick Banda gave the sacrament of confirmation to 99 young and some not so young people on the 17th March 2013. This first official visit of the Bishop coincided with the launching of a small book of 25 pages entitle: “St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (New Kaloko)” written by our confrere.
When Reinhold came to New Kaloko in January 1996, he had to face a new world even though he was already in Zambia for many years. He started by making a survey of the population, its religious and tribal composition, its social challenges and the history of this newly created compound where people occupied illegally any open space near the industrial area of Ndola. “As I got more and more involved with our Christians and the population at large, I was also challenged. Thus I started various religious and social initiatives”, wrote Reinhold.
Yearly reports over the development in the compound provided the necessary content for the writing of the book answering the wishes to the Christians of New Kaloko. Printed by Mission Press in Ndola, written in Chibemba, the book is well illustrated and can be purchase in Ndola or at the Missionaries of Africa in Woodlands at the price of only 5 Kwacha.
Congratulations to Reinhold Bloching for this beautiful achievement.
