Bishop-elect Is Missionary of Africa, With Studies in Social Communications

The Holy Father appointed Missionary of Africa priest Fr. Placide Lubamba Ndjibu, 54, as bishop of Kasongo, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The diocese has a population of some 1.7 million, with 570,000 Catholics. They are served by 59 priests and 21 religious.
Placide Lubamba Ndjibu was born in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo in 1959, and was ordained a priest in 1991.
He completed his studies in theology at the Catholic Institute of Tolosa, France, and studied journalism and social communications at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. He has served in a number of pastoral roles, including priest of the Sacred Heart parish in Manzeze, Tanzania, editor of the KARIBU bulletin in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo, and chaplain of the Wima High School and the Saio military camp, Bukavu, and priest of the St. Bernadette parish in Lubumbashi.
Since 2010 he is the provincial of the White Fathers for Central Africa (Burundi, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo).

En République démocratique du Congo (RDC), le pape François a nommé évêque de Kasongo Mgr Placide Lubamba Ndjibu, qui est Missionnaire d’Afrique (Pères Blancs), et qui était jusqu’ici supérieur provincial de sa congrégation pour le Burundi, la RDC et le Rwanda.
Mgr Lubamba Ndjibu, est âgé de 54 ans. Il est né dans le diocèse de Lubumbashi, et il a fait ses études au grand séminaire de Bukavu, puis son noviciat en Allemagne, à Fribourg (1985-1986). Il a complété son expérience pastorale dans le diocèse de Nouna-Dédougou (Burkina Faso, 1986-1988) avant d’achever sa théologie à l’Institut catholique de Toulouse (France, 1988-1991). Il a été ordonné prêtre en 1991.
Il a ensuite exercé son ministère en paroisse à Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso), avant de faire des études en communication et journalisme à Fribourg (1994-1996) et de travailler à la revue des Père Blancs « Vivant Univers » (Belgique, 1996-1998).
Il a repris un service pastoral en paroisse en Tanzanie (1998-2002), avant de devenir rédacteur du bulletin « Karibu », à Bukavu, tout en étant aumônier de lycée. Il a ensuite été curé à Lubumbashi (2007-2010).
Depuis septembre 2010, il résidait à Bukavu (RDC), en tant que provincial des Pères Blancs pour l’Afrique centrale.

The document has three objectives. Firstly, it acts as an inspiration to the clergy as they prepare to disseminate God’s Word during this period of Lent and the celebration of Easter. Secondly, it provides critical reflection notes and questions for discussion in such groups as the Small Christian Communities, Justice and Peace Meetings, Youth Groups, Lay movements, and various other Election discussion fora. Finally and above all, this document is intended to inspire people towards personal reflection, prayer and conversion in this Lenten and Easter Seasons. This is a pastoral initiative intended at motivating Christians during this period to think about their positive role and engagement in shaping the future of this nation.
Thanks to Father Julio Feliu who sent few pictures from St. Denis Ssebuggwawo Parish in Lilongwe. The Superior General of the MSOLA, Sister Carmen Sammut, together with Sister Maria del Carmen Ocon Moteno, General Assistant and the Provincial, Sister Margaret Kennedy.
On their last leg, they came to see the work that Dr Catherine Booth is doing at Rainbow Home Based Care Centre.
The youngsters were delighted with their visit and so were the visitors. “Pity we do not have Sisters for such programme” is the same answer of every Congregation of Sisters coming to see us.

We received the news that the Aunt of Father Francis Kangwa, Banakulu Kapolo, died at the age of 100 in Kitwe, Zambia. The family celebrated her birthday last January. She was the elder sister of the father of Francis. The burial will take place on Thursday the 6th March 2014.
Let us pray for her and the family.

Peace and goodness to you all! As for me, I am doing fine.
Well, this is just to express my gratitude for recommending me to take the Missionary Oath and receive the ministry of Deacon in the Church. I received the News with joy. I did not reply as soon as I received it because I was busy preparing for my 8 days retreat (from 21st to 28th Feb, 2014) and I could not have time to stay on the ‘net’ for so long. However, as expressed above, I am very happy and I ask you to continue praying for me to God so that he may grant me the graces I need before and after I take this importance step in my vocation journey. What the Lord has done is indeed what no one ever thought could happen and yet it is the very thing God prepared for those who love him in humility (cf. Dt 32:3). ‘For God, nothing is impossible’.
The Missionary Oath will be on 16th of May, 2014. Whereas, the Diaconate Ordination will be on 17th of May, 2014 at our Lady Queen of Peace Parish-Nairobi-Kenya.
