I just got the news from my mother that my father called Bastien passed away this morning in Canada. He was hospitalised last April but recovered enough to be discharged. I was with him at that time but came back to Zambia in May. Since then, he was living in a special apartment where proper care was provided according to his old age and needs. It went on relatively well for some time but was hospitalised once more about two weeks ago. His pain increased to the point to get injections of morphine. The last days were really painful. He was very agitated. On his bed side were my brother Sylvain, his son Mathieu, my sister Lucie and her husband Daniel, my mother Laurette and my good friend Gervais and his wife Jacky. Other grand-children were also present.<\/span><\/p>\n

The funerals will be held on Saturday 16 at 2:00 pm at St. Lawrence church in Trois-Rivi\u00e8res. Many thanks for your prayers and support. My father went to meet my sister Annie who died in 1989. \u201cHe is no longer suffering. Let us hope that they get a nice encounter in heaven\u201d, <\/em>says my mother.<\/span><\/p>\n

Je suis tout juste de retour de Ndola situ\u00e9 \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re de la R\u00e9publique D\u00e9mocratique du Congo. Nous sommes arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 Lusaka vers 13h30 apr\u00e8s un voyage d\u2019environ cinq heures. Ce n\u2019est que maintenant que je regarde mes courriels et maman m\u2019annonce que papa est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 de matin \u00e0 4h00, heure locale, ce qui correspond \u00e0 10h00 en Zambie. Dans un pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent message, mon fr\u00e8re Sylvain me disait qu\u2019il \u00e9tait avec papa tard dans la nuit, \u00e0 3h15 du matin. Mathieu, son a\u00een\u00e9, venait d\u2019aller reconduire maman \u00e0 la maison. Ma s\u0153ur Lucie et son conjoint Daniel devaient le remplacer vers 8h00. \u00ab\u00a0Les derni\u00e8res heures de papa ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s p\u00e9nibles. Papa a beaucoup souffert. Il s\u2019est calm\u00e9 apr\u00e8s l\u2019injection de morphine.\u00a0C\u2019est triste de le voir dans cet \u00e9tat.\u00a0On dit souvent qu\u2019on l\u2019aime. Parfois, il nous reconna\u00eet et ses yeux nous parlent\u00a0\u00bb <\/em>de dire Sylvain. Papa n\u2019est donc pas rest\u00e9 aux soins palliatifs longtemps. Lucie a inform\u00e9 maman et elle est retourn\u00e9e imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital avec Daniel. \u00ab\u00a0Il a fini de souffrir. Prions ensemble afin qu\u2019il ait une belle rencontre avec Annie\u00a0\u00bb <\/em>\u00e9crit maman.<\/span><\/p>\n

Je tiens \u00e0 vous remercier de tout c\u0153ur pour vos pens\u00e9es et vos pri\u00e8res. En famille, entre nous, on se dit souvent qu\u2019on s\u2019aime. Au nom de ma famille, je vous dis aussi que nous vous aimons tous, car, nous le savons, vous nous aimez en retour. C\u2019est cette cha\u00eene d\u2019amour qui guide nos pas vers l\u2019esp\u00e9rance et le grand Amour que Dieu a pour nous, ses enfants. Un merci particulier pour mon grand ami, un vrai fr\u00e8re, Gervais Dumais et Jacky sa conjointe qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 eux aussi au chevet de papa.<\/span><\/p>\n

Je viens de parler avec maman, Lucie et Daniel sur Skype. Nous partageons les m\u00eames pleurs, mais demeurons sereins. Ils sont tous tr\u00e8s fatigu\u00e9s apr\u00e8s une telle nuit. Les fun\u00e9railles de papa auront lieu le samedi 16 juillet \u00e0 14h00 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9glise Saint-Laurent \u00e0 Trois-Rivi\u00e8res. Papa avait demand\u00e9 d\u2019\u00eatre incin\u00e9r\u00e9. Je ne serai pas pr\u00e9sent, du moins physiquement. L\u2019urne fun\u00e9raire sera gard\u00e9e jusqu\u2019\u00e0 mon prochain cong\u00e9 l\u2019ann\u00e9e prochaine. Nous vous inviterons pour une autre c\u00e9l\u00e9bration. D\u2019ailleurs, c\u2019est une coutume dans beaucoup de pays africains de c\u00e9l\u00e9brer la vie d\u2019un \u00eatre cher une ann\u00e9e apr\u00e8s son d\u00e9c\u00e8s.
